We are making wildlife and conservation careers accessible for all.
We offer careers talks and assemblies to help all young people explore what future might be possible for them, as well as related courses to enable them to gain the necessary experience and employability skills to achieve their goals.
Our programme is offered as priority to schools in our local area of Camden and Westminster and those with a Free School Meal (FSM) percentage higher than 31%. They are also bookable by Youth Groups and other organisations.
Animal Careers Talk or Assembly – Outreach or Online
How do you get a job at the Zoo? What kinds of jobs are available? In our Animal Careers workshop, students learn about the wide range of careers available at London Zoo, the oldest scientific zoo in the world!
During this workshop students will consider the key skills needed for certain careers, covering keepers, vets, conservation and research work abroad. They’ll take part in some interactive discussions, learn about transferable skills and find out how important practical experience is in the world of animal work.
Location: Workshop can be run at the Zoo during a visit or as in person or online outreach, subject to availability information below.
Age Group: Upper KS2 to Post 16 (9-18 years old years old)
Duration: 45 mins (or 20mins for a shortened assembly)
Capacity: 35 students per class, up to 200 in assemblies
Availability: Subject to availability. In person outreach possible if within 45min travel time of London Zoo, otherwise the session can be run online.
Cost of session: Free of charge for schools that are members of London Zoo’s Education Access Scheme (EAS), as well as schools in Camden and Westminster with a FSM% higher than 31%. For all other schools, £45 plus transport costs. This can be delivered onsite for EAS Schools.
Careers Fairs
If you are a school in Camden or Westminster, or elsewhere in London with FSM% higher than 31%, we would be happy to attend your careers fair or event!
Whether with or without a stand, depending on your event, we can reveal to students the wide range of careers possible within the animal care and conservation sector and discuss how they can pursue their goals.
