Post-16 Psychology Study Day

Join us at London Zoo for an exciting and educational experience designed specifically for Post-16 Psychology students! Starting from September 2024, we are thrilled to offer you the opportunity to delve into the fascinating world of animal behaviour and cognition through our Psychology Study Days.

Our Psychology Study Days are tailored to align with A-level Psychology exam specifications and are available in the autumn and spring term. For more detail about the content of the day please scroll down to the 'Here's what you can expect' section below.

Age group: 16+

Location: Onsite at London Zoo

Timings: 10:30 - 14:30

Availability: Bookable during the autumn and spring terms, subject to availability.

Capacity: Each Study Day can accommodate up to 30 students, but larger groups can be accommodated on multiple dates or by exploring our lecture theatre options. 

Price: £135 in addition to the standard education rates for zoo entry.

Here's what you can expect:

  • Animal Learning and Intelligence Workshop: Explore various theories of learning and discuss their real-life applications in the context of animal welfare and conservation. Learn from real examples derived from ZSL's pioneering work in the field.
  • Self-Guided Animal Behaviour Study: Utilise iPads and a specialised app to conduct timed interval sampling, collecting valuable data on the behaviour of zoo animals. 
  • Super Species Demonstration: Witness our animal training staff in action during our 'Super Species' demonstration. Afterwards, engage in a Q&A session to deepen your understanding of animal training and behaviour.
  • Discussion with a Learning Officer: Gather for a short plenary session to discuss your findings and the significance of studying behaviour in informing the care of animals, whether in the zoo or in the wild.
