As the sun rose this morning over London Zoo, passers-by were delighted by a surprise new addition

Banksy’s latest artwork - which appeared overnight on our conservation Zoo’s  main entrance on Regents Park’s Outer Circle - has quickly become a global news sensation.

The ninth animal-themed street art to have been unveiled in as many days across London, the playful new mural completes Banksy’s ‘animal art trail’ which began with a goat on 5 August, shortly followed by monkeys, a rhino and piranhas to name just a few.

Our London Zoo Banksy is set to be the last on his animal trail

Banksy later confirmed that this latest addition, which can be adored by visitors to London’s Zoo, is to be the last in his animal-themed art trail that has stretched across the capital uniting people in conversation and eager anticipation of the next reveal.

This eye-catching mural will remain on show to visitors for as long as possible, with shutters remaining down today (Tuesday 13 August) and we are currently working on plans to preserve the artwork so as many people can enjoy it as possible in the future. Looking after animals is what we are all about, so these 2D life-sized creations are in the best hands!

We’ve made sure as many people as possible got to see the new addition to London Zoo, but we will be removing it from public display on Friday evening (16 August) .

Until then, the shutter will remain down during the day, and visitors to the zoo will be able to see the artwork.

Alongside the fact that we need to be able to make full use of our entrance during the busy summer period, we’re removing the artwork from the main entrance in order to best care for it while plans are made for its future. This has become a significant moment in our history that we’re keen to properly preserve.
